The rich and complex life of a leading opponent of South Africa’s apartheid regime is celebrated in this illuminating documentary.

Archbishop Desmond Tutu rose to prominence during decades of tumultuous struggle. Awarded the 1984 Nobel Peace Prize, he later chaired the Truth and Reconciliation Committee in South Africa, which explored human rights abuses across the political spectrum. Director Sam Pollard has gathered extensive previously unseen archive material covering the full spectrum of Tutu’s political, religious and personal life. Pollard’s previous work includes MLK/FBI, Citizen Ashe and the award-winning television series Eyes on the Prize. Tutu is an engaging portrait of a principled and humane man.

‘A striking portrait of a leader with a strong moral compass and a fearlessness that now seems almost superhuman.’ – Damon Wise, Deadline
