Born from a horse, a human boy with godlike strength embarks on an epic quest deep into the Underworld, meeting a colourful cast of eccentric characters who help him on his journey to restore cosmic ecological balance. Framed as a psychedelic fairytale, Son of the White Mare follows the superheroic Treeshaker as he learns the value of community, integrity and belonging.

At times cerebral, at others comedic, the film examines the destructive threat humanity poses to nature and how, through exploring the folkloric link Hungarian nomadic communities had to the environment, we can learn how precious ecosystems are. This beautiful mythical world, drawn by legendary animator Marcell Jankovics, is vivid, experimental and hallucinatory, providing an immersive sensory experience on the big screen.

The screening will be introduced by global animation expert and friend of Fresh Perspectives Michael Leader.

Presented for CINECITY by Fresh Perspectives, Fabrica’s Young Programmers group.
