Melting Vinyl presents: The Phantom of the Opera (live score)
One of the greatest horror films of the silent era, the first film adaptation of Gaston Leroux’s gothic tale is suitably operatic in scope, replete with extravagant sets, opulent costumes and hundreds of extras. Made a century ago and featuring a dazzling early use of Technicolour, it remains an extraordinary piece of cinema. It stars the legendary Lon Chaney – ‘the Man of a Thousand Faces’ – in one of his most celebrated performances.
The film will be accompanied by a brand-new live score written and performed by Scottish composers Andrew Wasylyk and Tommy Perman. They combine opera, neoclassical, acoustic and electronic instruments with elements of sound design to create a dramatic and haunting new soundtrack.
