A LONG WINTER (Q&A)

Director Andrew Haigh (All Of Us Strangers, 45 Years, Weekend) returns to the screen with an atmospheric story set among the snowy mountains of Colorado.

It’s the 1950s. Mikey is a young man living with his parents and brother, who is about to depart to Korea to complete his national service. After stumbling upon a family secret, a seismic event ruptures Mikey’s day-to-day existence. The cast features Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Bear, Girls) as the young man’s stern and uncommunicative father. Based on a Colm Tóibín short story, A Long Winter is an absorbing drama in which repressed desire seeps through the fractures in these characters’ lives.

‘It is a poignant, subversive study of grief and desire, and the terrible, infantilised loneliness of men without women; it is fiercely acted, and wonderfully shot by cinematographer André Turpin.’ – Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian
