Nick Cave is an internationally renowned musician, novelist, film score composer and screenwriter. Lauded for decades as a counter culture icon, he is now widely acknowledged as a contemporary songwriter to rank with the all-time greats, while effortlessly moving between media and maintaining a prolific and exceptionally high quality output including screenplays, film scores and novels. He wrote the screenplays for THE PROPOSITION (2005) and for LAWLESS, selected for the official competition at Cannes in 2012.
With Warren Ellis, he composed the scores for THE PROPOSITION, THE ROAD and THE ASSASSINATION OF JESSE JAMES BY THE COWARD ROBERT FORD.
He has been a patron of CINECITY since 2004 when he curated a season of Berlin-set films for the 2nd edition of the festival. He has regularly taken part in Q&As after festival screenings and is a big fan of the Duke of York’s Picturehouse – he has described it as “one of Britain’s truly great independent cinemas, the jewel in the crown of Brighton.” In 2012 he received a Doctor of Letters from the University of Brighton in recognition of his international standing in the arts and his patronage of CINECITY.
