This May, Brighton and Hove comes alive with a powerful and exciting programme of cultural events in celebration of this year’s Guest Director – Aung San Suu Kyi. The courageous leader, human rights advocate and Nobel Peace Prize winner has fought passionately for democracy in Burma and taken to the heart of this year’s Festival is her plea ‘use your liberty to promote ours’.

A moving portrait of Burma’s opposition leader and democracy activist. The film explores the profound impact of her detainment on her family and friends, providing a rare and powerful insight into a remarkable woman.

A powerful story of a former soldier who risked everything to become a pro-democracy activist. Discharged from the Burmese army, Myo Myint became a supporter of Aung San Suu Kyi and started giving speeches outside military bases. He was jailed for 15 years, suffering mistreatment and torture.
