Following a lively introduction to Brighton here at Lighthouse last year, ‘straight 8’ is back in town on 29th November as part of the Cinecity Film Festival, at 9pm in the Sallis Benney Theatre. straight 8 challenges anyone to make a 3 minute film on one cartridge of Super 8mm film, editing only in-camera. The undeveloped film is then returned to straight 8 for processing and an original soundtrack uploaded. The first time that filmmakers see their films is amongst a packed cinema audience.

When straight 8 came to Lighthouse to share their ‘thing’ last winter, 12 people entered their 2008 event. And now all of those films are being screened in a double bill with the best dozen from straight 8’s 2008 crop (screened at Cannes Film Festival). And... two of the Brighton entries made it into that prestigious collection too! Come and support the filmmakers and get inspired - this screening comes just a couple of days before the straight 8 2009 call-out. Cardboard cut-out car chases, fish stew with monks in the hollywood hills, live-in robots, schlock horror returns from the grave, mexican occult epic drama and more... Expect to be shocked, thrilled, made to laugh, and maybe even cry. Above all, expect to be inspired. See you there!
